Who am I?
I am a cis-woman, 1st generation immigrant of Chinese-Filipina descent, bisexual-queer and have lived in Canada almost all my life. I have been an educator for over 30 years, currently with my own small consulting company that I co-run with my dear friend Jennifer Watt. I have been most fortunate to have worked in many professional spaces: as an elementary classroom teacher, an equity consultant, a university instructor for teacher preservice programs, as staff and coordinator in a provincial teacher's union. Always, the thread that ties all my work is anti-oppression and social justice. I have been facilitating brave conversations for most of my adult life, and this both feeds me, challenges me, and always helps me grow.
What inspires me?
Collaborating with people and sharing ideas, lived experiences, and planning future change both inspires and rejuvenates me. My adult children and partner strengthen me, nourish me especially when the world is a challenging and painful place. Reading and traveling are my personal loves. I learn so much from these experiences of observation, taking notice and immersion.
Why am I here?
Mentoring is an opportunity for reciprocity. I have had much personal and professional experience navigating difficult life moments impacted by discrimination and injustice. I have also been able to weather much of it, and have experienced so much kindness, support and love from others. I believe I have something to offer. And in return, I have the opportunity to learn, share, grow and develop meaningful connections with another person. This is what mentoring can be. .
