Exploring How Our Histories Shape Our Current Realities

Helping organizations understand how the past continues to shape the present so they can create a more informed, equitable, and compassionate future.

Organizations today are navigating increasingly complex conversations about equity, wellbeing, leadership, burnout, and organizational change.

At QueensConnected Consulting, I create learning experiences that help organizations understand how our histories continue to shape the people we serve, the workplaces we create, and the systems we work within.

  • Naika and co-facilitator Angelique delivered an exceptional Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) workshop for our team at the Outpatient Mental Health Team at CHEO. Their approach was both engaging and deeply educational, helping staff connect with complex topics through practical examples of microaggressions and allyship. The session sparked meaningful reflection on personal bias, language, and self-awareness, and empowered our team to speak up with more confidence. The workshop introduced effective strategies such as 'calling in' to address harm constructively, and inspired ongoing learning about racism and Canadian history. Most importantly, it equipped our team with tools to foster more inclusive communication and assessment practices, ultimately contributing to safer and more welcoming workspaces. We are grateful for their expertise and highly recommend their services.

  • Naïka Thomas delivered an informative and interactive session on Anti-Black Racism in Healthcare. The presentation deepened our understanding of how systemic racism impacts health outcomes for Black communities and highlighted the barriers Black newcomers face when navigating the healthcare system. It also provided practical strategies that strengthened our team’s capacity to support newcomers and advance more equitable care. Great job!

    West Ottawa Community Resource Team

  • My team of front-line social service workers had the opportunity to participate in a Micro/Macro Aggression Racism and Discrimination training with Naïka Thomas. The sessions were both thoughtful and impactful for our team. Naïka created a space that encouraged honest reflection and meaningful dialogue, while grounding the conversation in practical strategies that staff can apply in their day-to-day work with clients and colleagues. What resonated most with our team was Naïka’s ability to connect broader concepts around equity and systemic racism to real-world practice in community health settings. The sessions were engaging, respectful, and challenged us to think critically about how we show up in our roles. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from Naïka and would highly recommend her work to organizations looking to deepen their understanding of anti-racism and equity in practice.

  • Our team found the core content of [Equity in Practice: Understanding Inequities and Strengthening Inclusion] to be a very valuable resource for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training for our organization and for building our capacity to serve our community. Naika's delivery was clear, concise and compassionate. The 12-month access period is a helpful benefit that allows us to revisit the material at our own pace.
